Treats for Being a Good Obedient Citizen: Krispy Kreme and Junior’s Offering Freebies to Those Who Received COVID-19 Vaccine

Krispy Kreme and Junior’s are offering COVID-vaccinated people free treats.

TimeOut claims that Krispy Kreme is the first national fast food chain to hand out freebies to those who received the COVID-19 vaccine. Krispy Kreme customers who show their vaccination cards at the counter will receive a free doughnut.

Chief marketing officer Dave Skena said that “we all want to get COVID-19 behind us as fast as possible, and we want to support everyone doing their part to make the country safe by getting vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is available to them.”

Junior’s Restaurant and Bakery in Brooklyn, meanwhile, will hand out free Mini Cheesecakes to those who flash their vaccination cards. Or perhaps their vaccine passports.

Big League Politics covered the release of New York’s “Excelsior Pass,” which offers printed and mobile versions of a pass that verifies proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result:

Each Pass will have a secure QR code, which participating businesses and venues can scan using a companion app to verify proof of COVID-19 negative test results or proof of vaccination. An individual’s data is kept secure and confidential at all times,” the news release says.

Venues like Madison Square Garden in New York City will begin using the app within the next couple or few days. Smaller “arts, entertainment, and event” venues will also start using it on Friday, April 2, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.

The app will not display health information when scanned. It will only display a green checkmark if the person has received a vaccine or negative COVID test—or a red “x” if not. All health information will be encrypted with blockchain technology to ensure security.
