Trump Administration Demands Answers from Democrat Governors Who Housed COVID-19 Patients in Nursing Homes

The Trump administration is demanding information from Democrat state governors who housed COVID-19 patients in nursing homes, resulting in needless pain, suffering and death for the most vulnerable.

The Department of Justice said on Wednesday that they are requesting answers from states “that issued orders which may have resulted in the deaths of thousands of elderly nursing home residents.”

One of the culprits – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan – is standing by her policies and claiming that the Trump administration is wrong for demanding answers.

“The fact that this letter was sent during the middle of the Republican National Convention week to four Democratic governors should make it crystal clear that this is nothing more than election year politics by an administration that is more concerned with the president’s re-election campaign than protecting Michigan seniors,” Whitmer said in a statement late Wednesday.

She added that “Americans would all be better served if the Trump administration stopped the partisan games and focused on delivering a real plan to defeat COVID-19.”

Big League Politics reported last month on Whitmer’s decision to bipartisan legislation that would have made sure that COVID-19 patients were no longer housed in nursing homes:

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer vetoed a bipartisan bill on Friday that would have protected the elderly and vulnerable by banning COVID-19 patients from being quarantined in nursing homes.

“Protecting the health and safety of nursing home residents and their staff continues to be a top priority for my administration,” Governor Whitmer said while announcing her veto.
“Senate Bill 956 is nothing more than a political game that would relocate vulnerable seniors without any requirement for consent, doctor’s approval, or notification to patients and their families. It’s time for the Republican legislature to get serious about protecting our most vulnerable and addressing the public health and economic crisis faced by our state. We look forward to continuing our work with stakeholders and legislators on the task force to develop real solutions that make sense for Michigan seniors and their families,” she added.

Senate Republicans are firing back at Whitmer for her cruel and callous decision to veto the common sense legislation.

“In a mean-spirited move, Gov. Whitmer announced she vetoed a plan that would have prevented COVID-19 patients from entering our nursing homes,” they wrote.

“Only a few governors had allowed this reckless practice in the first place, and all except Gov. Whitmer have since changed course and stopped the practice, including embattled New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo,” Senate Republicans continued.

“Gov. Whitmer should be ashamed, and she certainly is acting like it. Her veto decision was hidden in a late Friday afternoon news release with a headline announcing something entirely different,” they added. “But make no mistake. The governor owns her veto and the abhorrent policy that has contributed to the deaths of thousands of people.”

Another culprit – Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York – is also refusing to comply with investigators and blaming Republicans for his decisions that killed countless elderly people.

“There are about 14 states in the country that followed the same CDC guidance. The letter only went to four Democratic states. This is all politics,” he said.

However, what Cuomo is saying is patently false. New Jersey and Pennsylvania are the only two other states that sent COVID-19 patients to nursing homes. This is why they are now being investigated by the feds.

No Republican governor anywhere enacted these cruel and inhumane policies. These cretins now blame President Trump for the deaths they directly caused. Jail time should be coming for these Democrat butchers with copious amounts of blood on their hands.
