Trump Administration Is Cutting Planned Parenthood Off From Stimulus PPP Funds
President Donald Trump’s administration is cutting off abortion group Planned Parenthood from accessing Paycheck Protection Program stimulus funds, new reporting from the Daily Signal has revealed.
“President Trump is committed to ensuring Paycheck Protection Program money is used for saving jobs at small businesses, not getting the government into the business of funding abortion,” said an unnamed government official of the prospect of Planned Parenthood accessing stimulus funds. “While not all Americans share President Trump’s pro-life beliefs, there is broad bipartisan support for the idea that American taxpayers should not have to fund abortion.”
The official explained that the federal government is recognizing Planned Parenthood as a sole business with almost 16,000 employees nationwide. The abortion group legally structures itself in local affiliates that could potentially apply for stimulus money on the basis of being small businesses, but applications for the program will recognize them as an element of the national entity.
The Small Business Administration has license to recognize local affiliate organizations of bigger businesses as being segments of their parent companies when determining eligibility for small business relief funding.
Planned Parenthood had earlier warned that the way the CARES Act stimulus was being structured would prevent the abortionist group from receiving taxpayer dollars.
“The bill gives the Small Business Administration broad discretion to exclude Planned Parenthood affiliates and other non-profits serving people with low incomes and deny them benefits under the new small business loan program,” claimed the group in a March statement.
Several states have ordered the cessation of abortion operations as non-essential practices during their coronavirus states of emergency. However, the halts to abortion procedures have proved temporary in nature, with Ohio’s being shut down through a court judgement and Texas’ being revoked by the state on April 22nd.
