TRUMP: Any Republican backing Phelan is a fool, and should be disassociated from the Republican Party
On February 25, 2024, former President Donald Trump endorsed David Covey in a heated Republican primary for Texas State House District.
Covey is running against House Speaker Dade Phelan, a fixture of the Texas Republican Party establishment, who kicked off impeachment proceedings against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and has a history of appointing Democrats to key positions in the House that resulted in the death of various pro-gun reforms.
“David Covey has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Texas’ 21st State House District,” Trump declared on Truth Social on February 25,.Trump added that Covey “will never let you down!”
The former president stressed, “Any Republican backing Phelan is a fool, and should be disassociated from the Republican Party — that’s how bad Phelan is, especially on, Election Integrity!”
Trump continued by noting that Phelan “led the Fraudulent Impeachment of the recently re-elected, in a landslide, Attorney General of Texas, Ken Paxton.”
He added that Covey is “America First Conservative who will Secure the Border, Restore Election Integrity, Protect our Families and Military/Vets, and Defend our under siege Second Amendment.”
Trump’s endorsement here could potentially tip the scales in Covey’s favor. Unseating Phelan is a tall order. But with Trump using his bully pulpit, combined with angry grassroots voters who want to punish Phelan, Covey could potentially pull off a major upset.
The key here is that the grassroots continue exposing Phelan’s awful record and get voters in HD 21 to show up to the polls on March 5 to relieve the current House Speaker of the burden of holding higher office.
