Trump Praises McCarthy And Stefanik For Endorsing Liz Cheney’s Challenger

By Darian Douraghy

Former President Trump praised both House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (NY) for their endorsement of Harriet Hageman, the current challenger to Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY.)

“Congratulations to Kevin McCarthy and Elise Stefanik on their strong and powerful endorsement of Harriet Hageman of Wyoming. Loser Liz Cheney is a [Republican In Name Only] and warmonger who doesn’t deserve to serve in the House of Representatives,” Trump said in a statement issued through his Save America PAC. “Harriet will be an outstanding Representative for the Great State of Wyoming!”

House Minority Leader McCarthy issued a statement Thursday saying that he would be endorsing Hageman.

“The most successful Representatives in Congress focus on the needs of their constituents, and throughout her career, Harriet has championed America’s natural resources and helped the people of Wyoming reject burdensome and onerous government overreach,” the House GOP leader said.

“I look forward to welcoming Harriet to a Republican majority next Congress, where together, we will hold the Biden Administration accountable and deliver much-needed solutions for the American people,” he added.

Representative Liz Cheney has received numerous criticisms both by Donald Trump and those who support the ‘MAGA’ agenda alike. Cheney’s policy views, which largely encourage military intervention abroad, are not the only issues the Trump base holds; many also view the neoconservative politician as a traitor to the American people in wake of her heavy involvement on the arguably unconstitutional January 6th committee and claims that Donald Trump should be barred from future runs for office.

Cheney was formally censured by the GOP along with Illinois Republican representative Adam Kinzinger for their roles in joining a House committee in order to further “investigate” events that occurred at the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021. This followed the Wyoming GOP similarly expelling Cheney from the party back in November.

“The Conference must not be sabotaged by Representatives Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, who have demonstrated, with actions and words, that they support Democrat efforts to destroy President Trump more than they support winning back a Republican majority in 2022,” the censure resolution said.
