Turkish Official Says the Entire Planet Hates the United States

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu believes the entire world hates the United States. Additionally, he stated that Europe functions as a pawn of the US. He made these comments at a meeting with youth in Istanbul..

Soylu is one of the most vociferous critics of the US in the Turkish government and has believed that it was one of the principal actors who launched the 2016 military coup against the Erdogan regime.

He is of the view that the US is losing its prestige worldwide due to its erratic foreign policy.

On top of that, Soylu believes that  Europe’s actions and policies are largely driven by the US’s interests as opposed to its own.

Soylu believes Europe is becoming increasingly irrelevant at a geopolitical level, effectively becoming a satrapy of the US. “There is America. Europe is a train in America’s column. There is nothing special about him.”

These statements come during a time when there is growing anti-US sentiment in Turkey and worldwide due to its overbearing foreign policy.

On top of that, the minister called attention to how  Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he has ended contact with US Ambassador Jeffrey Flake, who had only spoken to opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu. In addition, he stressed that Flake “should know his place.”

The Turkish interior minister took Flake to task after the US and eight European countries put out travel warnings and moved to temporarily shut down their diplomatic missions in Turkey over alleged security concerns.

It’s becoming abundantly clear that Turkey is growing uncomfortable with its role in NATO and its standing with the West. As a result, it will likely go back to its time-honored tradition of geopolitical hedging to play the West against the East in order to secure its own interests. As the world grows more multipolar, Turkey will be playing a geopolitical balancing act that will likely make the Collective West very uneasy.
