Turncoat Texas Senator John Cornyn Says Gun Control Bill Was a Good Start

Texas Senator John Cornyn continued to defend his support for “compromise” gun control legislation he helped advance in the Senate.
In 2022, Cornyn teamed up with Democrats to help secure the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The law was sharply criticized by pro-Second Amendment activists for encouraging states to adopt “red flag” gun confiscation orders. These laws allow for law enforcement to confiscate an individual’s firearms if they allegedly pose a threat to themselves or others. All of this is done without any form of due process.
The Republican Party of Texas sharply criticized Cornyn at their convention which was held right before the gun control measure was being advanced through the Senate. Cornyn’s speech before the Texas GOP delegates was loudly booed. In the meantime, a resolution lambasting red flag laws as “a pre-crime punishment of people not adjudicated guilty” was passed by Texas Republican leaders.
Per a poll of Republican delegates, 67% disapproved of Cornyn’s legislative behavior.
Irrespective of this pushback Cornyn is receiving from members of the GOP, the Texas Senator insists that the passage of the anti-gun legislation represented a “a good start.”
Cornyn’s remarks came at a meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee on the “public health crisis” that guns allegedly cause.
At this hearing, Cornyn was praised by the likes of Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, an anti-gun Democrats.
“That took real courage, John,” Durbin declared, making a reference to Cornyn’s anti-gun outreach with Democrats. “We may disagree on a lot of issues, but at a time when we needed to act you did your best, and I thank you for that.”
Gun rights activists took Cornyn to task for his anti-gun treachery..
“Cornyn’s gun control compromise is referred to as ‘the most significant gun control to pass in 30 years’ by the Biden White House,” Chris McNutt, the president of Texas Gun Rights, said to Texas Scorecard. “It incentivizes states to pass red flag gun confiscation laws without due process, amongst other things. This law has nothing to do with safety and everything to do with eroding the Second Amendment. It must be repealed.”
In 2020, Cornyn was re-elected to the Senate and is running for re-election in 2026. For his anti-gun behavior, Cornyn must be relieved of the burden of higher office. This guy is a total subversive that must be put in his place at the ballot box.
