“Ukraine Has Biological Research Facilities,” Says Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland

A breaking video out of Washington, D.C. showed US Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland explicitly saying that Ukraine has “biological research facilities” in direct response to a question by Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) asking if the nation contains any kind of chemical or biological weapons.

“Let me ask you, does Ukraine have chemical or biological weapons?” Rubio inquired.

“Ukraine has biological research facilities, which in fact we are now quite concerned… Russian troops… may be seeking to gain control of so we are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach,” Nuland slowly and hesitantly replied.

Rubio quickly interjected, speaking out against what he believes is “Russian propaganda” in order to influence the war. He then asked Nuland “if there’s a biological or chemical weapon incident or attack inside of Ukraine is there any doubt in your mind that 100% it would be the Russians behind it?”

“There is no doubt in my mind, Senator,” answered Nuland with little to no hesitation. “It is classic Russian technique to blame on the other guy what they’re planning to do themselves.”

Well-known political commentator Glenn Greenwald was quick to share his opinion on the incident, specifically highlighting the end of the interaction between Nuland and Rubio. Greenwald noted what appeared to be a reframing of the conversation by Rubio, pointing out that he quickly helped Nuland shift the focus to Russia.

“Really good cleanup by Rubio: interrupting Nuland’s bizarre confession, which he did not expect, and immediately directing her to say that if there’s a biological attack, it must be Russia,” Greenwald wrote online. “Why is she so concerned Russia would seize such a benign ‘biological research facility’?”

Nuland has a long history in United States foreign policy, especially with Ukraine. The US undersecretary of state once famously said “Fuck the EU” during a phone call regarding a potential 2014 Ukrainian regime change allegedly fomented by the United States.
