Ukrainian Authorities are Begging For the US to Provide More Economic and Military Aid

Ukraine may have to delay paying government workers and issuing pension payments to millions of its citizens if the European Union and the United States do not send promised financial aid early in 2024, according to a warning issued by its deputy prime minister.

Yulia Svyrydenko also serves as an economy minister. She said that a fall in foreign aid would put the Ukrainian economy into  “survival” mode.

“The support of partners is extremely critical,” Svyrydenko stated. “We need it urgently.”

In the last months, the Ukrainian government is scrambling to extract money from Western governments to pay for public services and benefits after promised aid from its closest allies did not materialize. Ukraine needs $37 billion foreign aid in 2024.

A $60 billion funding request by the Biden regime has been gridlocked in Congress while a four-year 50 billion euro European Union support package was vetoed by Hungary in December. EU leaders will reconvene on February 1 to try to override Hungary’s resistance but they are also crafting alternative plans to send 20 billion euros to Ukraine, going around Hungary.

Svyrydenko expressed her hope that the EU would give the green light to the Ukraine aid in February and send over the funds before the conclusion of March. However, she stressed that this amount of funds would not be enough.

To financially prop up the government, the regime of Volodomyr Zelensky increased a windfall tax on banks to 50%. However, the Zelensky regime is facing a budgetary shortfall, the minister stated. About $5 billion in funds from international donors and lenders in December is not enough to cover the Zelensky regime’s budgetary needs.

Svyrydenko announced that the Zelensky regime would place a priority on defense spending and debt servicing which means “there’s a huge risk of underfunding of certain social sectors.” This could lead to the delay in the payment of wages for 500,000 civil servants and 1.4 million teachers and benefits for 10 million pensioners if foreign aid is not transferred, she revealed.

Ukraine is in a tough spot. Policymakers in the Collective West duped Ukraine into becoming a sacrificial lamb against Russia. Now, it could see itself become completely splintered along West (NATO)-East (Russia) lines.

If Ukraine had rational politicians, it would try to negotiate for peace and completely withdraw from any attempt to join NATO. Sadly, its political class is completely enamored with the West and it will likely continue to pursue this war much to the detriment of its territorial integrity.
