United States Launches Strikes Against Iranian Proxies in Iraq After Base Attack Leaves 3 Americans Injured

The United States government recently carried out a new round of airstrikes early on December 26, 2023 in Iraq that ended up killing militants and destroying three facilities used by Iranian proxy groups that had been attacking  American and coalition military units, American officials stated.

The American air strikes were launched in response to several assaults, which included a drone attack launched hours before by members of Kataib Hezbollah and connected groups on Erbil air base in Iraq, per Adrienne Watson, a National Security Council spokeswoman. The drone attack injured three American service members, she announced.

“My prayers are with the brave Americans who were injured,” Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin declared in a statement.

This recent wave of American strikes attacked facilities used by Kataib Hezbollah, a militia group in Iraq that receives support from the Islamic Republic of Iran. The US government has routinely blamed Iran and the militias allegedly in its network for these multi-month exchanges between US and militia forces.

Since Hamas launched its attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, Iranian-supported militia groups in Iraq, Syria and Yemen have launched multiple attacks against American military units and bases and on commercial vessels sailing across the Red Sea. The Biden regime has retaliated against the militants in Iraq and Syria, while also attacking Houthi militants.

In a statement, US Central Command announced that initial assessments revealed that the recent US airstrikes in Iraq took out the targeted facilities and most likely killed multiple militants. The statement also noted that there were no signs of civilian casualties.

“These strikes are intended to hold accountable those elements directly responsible for attacks on coalition forces in Iraq and Syria and degrade their ability to continue attacks,” General Michael Erik Kurilla of U.S. Central Command declared in the statement. “We will always protect our forces.”

The US is clearly overstretched in its foreign policy ventures. Its zealous universalist foreign policy coupled with its slavish devotion to Zionist interests, will inevitably lead the US to bleeding itself dry both in terms of finances and manpower.

The only way to avoid such a fate is for the US to embrace a foreign policy of realism, restraint, and eventually non-interventionism.
