UT Professor Gets Fired for Calling for the Deaths of Catholics
Last week an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Austin was fired last week for several inflammatory remarks he made on Twitter.
He called for Catholics to die and wanted the state of Israel to be destroyed.
Brandon Waltens of Texas Scorecard provided an update on the situation:
In a tweet, UT-Austin stated that Wells is no longer employed by the university. ‘Spencer Wells is no longer a faculty or advisory council member at UT,’ they wrote. ‘He previously had a courtesy, unpaid appointment as a part-time adjunct that did not involve teaching. That ended in May and was not renewed. We do not have any association with the views held by Mr. Wells.’
Young America’s Foundation initially reported on this case, The professor in question, Spencer Wells, was challenged by another Twitter user for his comments calling on Iran to bomb Israel. He then went on an unhinged rant.
After being questioned by a Twitter user if he was using sarcasm when encouraging Iran to bomb Israel, Spencer Wells responded: ‘Nope – I despise the Israelis. If you want to see the post-apocalyptic vision of what Apartheid in South Africa would have looked like in 2020, visit Israel. The Palestinians have suffered for far too long – bomb it until the sand turns to glass…’
In addition, Wells tweeted “F*** the Catholic Church” and an article outlining “10 Secrets the Catholic Church Hopes You’ve Forgotten,” with the hashtag #CatholicismMustDie.
Wells’ bio lists him as a geneticist, anthropologist, author, entrepreneur, adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Austin, and the owner of an iconic nightclub in Austin, Texas.
UT is known for being a hub of political correctness thanks to its recent embrace of identity politics.
At the very least, the university was able to hold an unhinged faculty member accountable for his poisonous comments towards Catholics.
