YouTube Censors Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for Election Fraud Allegations
This past week Big Tech juggernaut YouTube took down a video posted by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro back in 2021. According to a report by Dan Frieth at Reclaim the Net, videos about electronic machines are what got him in trouble with YouTube censors.
Since assuming the presidency in 2018, Bolsonaro has alleged that Brazil’s electoral process has not been transparent. The Brazilian president claims that there was electoral fraud in the 2014 and 2018 elections.
The Superior Electoral Court has disputed Bolsonaro’s claims.
Bolsonaro’s removed video was originally published back in July 2021. In the video, Bolsonaro claimed that the electronic voting machines were not secure.
The video can still be available on a different YouTube channel, BrasilGov, which the federal government manages.
YouTube told CNN Brasil in a statement that its rules “must be followed by all users.”
“We have worked to keep our policies and systems up to date in order to give visibility to credible content and reduce the spread of misleading information, while allowing political debate to take place,” YouTube continued.
YouTube explained that since March, it has taken down claims of election fraud in the 2018 election in addition to claims of electronic voting machines getting hacked.
“This is one of the examples of what we don’t allow under our policy against election disinformation,” YouTube added.
In a recent meeting with ambassadors, Bolsonaro repeated the same allegations about voter fraud. So far, YouTube has not censored that video.
Due to Bolsonaro’s right-wing populist outlook, he has become an easy target for the Masters of the Universe at Big Tech. Bolsonaro is an unapologetic nationalist who wants to bring order to Brazil and is not afraid to speak his mind about how screwed up the country has become due to its parasitic elites.
Hopefully, Bolsonaro is re-elected later this year. A Bolsonaro administration will always be a good ally to a potential right-wing populist government in the US.
