AOC Uses Synagogue Shooting to Call for Universal Gun Registration

Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is immediately calling for gun control in the wake of the California synagogue shooting.

AOC demanded that the Senate act on gun control legislation right after Chabad shooting that left one person dead and several injured.

The freshman Congresswoman said, “Heartbroken to hear of the San Diego synagogue shooting, particularly so on this final day of Passover.”

She immediately shifted the conversation to gun control saying that “We have a responsibility to love + protect our neighbors. The longer the Senate delays holding a vote on #HR8, the more we put Americans at risk.”

HR 8 is a universal registration scheme which expands registration to include private transfers and creates a de facto ban on Americans aged 18 to 20 from obtaining handguns. BLP reported on its passage in February. The bill was approved on a Democratic party line vote, however, 8 House Republicans joined in supporting it.

HR 8 is the most expansive piece of gun control to pass a chamber of Congress since the Brady Act of 1993.

It will likely die in the Republican-controlled Senate.

However, the real threat for gun owners will be the bipartisan sponsored “red flag” gun confiscation bill that Senator Lindsey Graham is championing.
