Biden Admin Email Tells Student Loan Holders SCOTUS ‘Got It Wrong’
We heard President Joe Biden say the Supreme Court “got it wrong” in regards to its recent ruling on student debt forgiveness, but now we can see it in writing.
In a recent email to student loan holders, the Biden administration, again, stated SCOTUS got the decision “wrong.”
“On June 30th, the Supreme Court issued a decision invalidating the Biden-Harris Administration’s student debt relief plan to provide up to $20,000 in one-time relief to more than 40 million student loan borrowers,” the letter signed by Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said.
“We believe the Supreme Court got it wrong,” it adds.
The letter to student loan holders included plans of the action the Biden administration is taking to provide debt relief to borrowers.
“First, we are taking action aimed at opening an alternative path to debt relief for working and middle-class borrowers,” the letter declares.
“Second, the Administration is implementing the most affordable repayment plan ever created, called the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Plan,” it continues.
Finally, the letter goes on to assure its readers that “the Department is creating a temporary on-ramp to protect borrowers from the worst consequences of missed, late, or partial payments.”
Last month the Supreme Court ruled that the HEROES Act of 2003 does not give Biden the authority to cancel billions in student loan debt.
Following the ruling, President Biden said he would “stop at nothing to find other ways to deliver relief to hard-working middle-class families.”
“For far too long, borrowers fell through the cracks of a broken system that failed to keep accurate track of their progress towards forgiveness,” Cardona said in a statement late last week.
“Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is taking another historic step to right these wrongs and announcing $39 billion in debt relief for another 804,000 borrowers,” she announced Friday.

Student debt forgiveness is just one of various Supreme Court rulings the Biden administration has declared “wrong.” Others include its recent rulings on abortion and affirmative action.
