Biden Regime Drops Wire Fraud Charges Against MIT Professor Accused of Misrepresenting China Ties in Federal Grant Applications

The Biden administration has cleared Dr. Gang Chen, a professor with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) who had been accused of wire fraud and lying about his ties to communist China in order to soak up $19 million in federal grant money.

“After a careful assessment of this new information in the context of all the evidence, our office has concluded that we can no longer meet our burden of proof at trial,” said U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins.

“As prosecutors, we have an obligation in every matter we pursue to continually examine the facts while being open to receiving and uncovering new information,” she added.

MIT, the university that received considerable funding from deceased serial child rapist Jeffrey Epstein and reserved an office for the infamous pedophile, is celebrating the news as a victory for academic freedom.

“Gang was first detained at Logan Airport about six weeks before the pandemic struck our community; the burdens on him and his family members since then have been beyond imagining,” MIT president L. Rafael Reif stated, adding that “this case has also caused ongoing distress throughout our community, particularly for Gang’s friends, students, and colleagues, and for those across MIT and elsewhere who are of Chinese descent.”

“Having had faith in Gang from the beginning, we can all be grateful that a just outcome of a damaging process is on the horizon. We are eager for his full return to our community,” he added.

“Today is a great day,” said Robert Fisher, the lawyer for Chen. “The government finally acknowledged what we have said all along: Professor Gang Chen is an innocent man. Our defense was never based on any legal technicalities. Our defense was this: Gang did not commit any of the offenses he was charged with. Full stop.”

The Trump administration had accused Chen of being part of China’s Thousand Talents Plan, which works to cultivate assets within key sectors of the U.S. economy who can provide privileged information to the communists in Beijing.

Big League Politics reported on how the Thousand Talents Plan has been undermining national security interests for years:

report from the Daily Caller News Foundation describes a federal investigation revealing Chinese subversion within the U.S. that has resulted in thousands of moles within the government leaking sensitive information to the communist superpower.

This has come as result of China’s Thousand Talents Plan, a scheme designed to buy off foreign workers in their rival countries. Through this illicit program, they likely put thousands of U.S. federal workers on their payroll and received data about crucial programs.

Certain lawmakers in Washington D.C. are aware of the scheme, and ordered an investigation into the matter.

“China wins twice. First, the American taxpayer funds China’s research and development. Second, China uses that research to improve its economic and military status,” Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) said.

Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) said that “there are serious consequences that come from giving a foreign government so much control over the vital research we rely on to drive our country’s economic competitiveness and bolster our national defense.”

The Senate investigation has produced a report showing exactly how terrifyingly effective the Chinese plan has been. It indicated that there are 35,000 foreign researchers – including 10,000 Chinese – doing research at the National Labs on behalf of the Department of Energy (DOE).

During the investigation, the counterintelligence office found one individual who departed to China with 30,000 files after working as a postgraduate fellow with the DOE. The DOE is hardly the only federal bureaucracy that has been infiltrated by the dastardly Chinese.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) gave access to sensitive genomic data to companies intimately linked to the Chinese government. An investigation showed that the NIH showed no concern for “national security risks, such as weaponizing for biological warfare,” and they did not take into account “whether the [principal investigator] is in a foreign country that is on a United States Government watch list.” Their vetting only included “reviewing the first page of results from a Google search,” the report stated.

The State Department has also been derelict in taking into account the Chinese threat. The report determined that State “denied less than five percent of the visa applications it determined warranted additional scrutiny due to concerns that the applicant might violate export control laws.” The Department of Commerce “issued at least 20 licenses to Chinese nationals associated with various Chinese talent recruitment plans,” and rejected applications from foreign nationals only 1.1 percent of the time.

The Biden regime is doing the bidding of China yet again and protecting their assets in the homeland. The globalist plan is going full steam ahead.
