Canadian Civil Liberties Association Condemns Trudeau’s Extreme Power Grab
The Canadian Civil Liberties Association lambasted Justin Trudeau’s unprecedented use of emergency powers utilized to criminalize truckers and their supporters who are protesting in the name of freedom across Canada.
The association released a statement on Twitter which read:
The federal government has not met the threshold necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act. This law creates a high and clear standard for good reason: the Act allows government to bypass ordinary democratic processes. This standard has not been met.
The Emergencies Act can only be invoked when a situation ‘seriously threatens the ability of the Government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Canada’ & when the situation ‘cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada.’
Governments regularly deal with difficult situations, and do so using powers granted to them by democratically elected representatives. Emergency legislation should not be normalized. It threatens our democracy and our civil liberties. #cdnpoliCanadian Civil Liberties Association
Trudeau’s heavy-handed attitude towards the Canadian truckers and other protestors have drawn criticism from many, especially star players in the Canadian Conservative party such as potential future leader Pierre Poilievre, who ripped Justin Trudeau over his handling of the ongoing freedom protests and urged him to end his repeated draconian restrictions and smears once and for all.
“Justin Trudeau has caused a political emergency,” began Poilievre. “While the rest of the world and provinces across Canada are beginning to remove restrictions and mandates, Justin Trudeau decided to pile new ones, targeting truckers’ livelihoods, and now he’s got protests right around the country.”
“Now he’s dropping in the polls, desperately trying to save his political career and save face for himself,” said the Conservative Party politician before offering Trudeau a way out.
“The solution is staring him in the face… all he has to do… is eliminate these mandates and restrictions, to let the protestors including the truckers go back to their jobs and their lives.”
Canada’s trucker-run freedom convoy has served as an inspiration to many and remains ongoing despite extreme efforts by the Trudeau regime to criminalize virtually any kind of protest they deem inconvenient. The massive effectiveness of Canada’s demonstrations is giving freedom-lovers ideas around the world, including our very own American truckers who plan to soon begin their own gigantic convoy headed from California all the way to Washington, DC.
