Chicago May Be Progressive, But 23 Shootings This Past Weekend Is The Bigger Headline
According to Breibart news, 15 people were shot from Friday into Saturday morning, while two were wounded fatally in Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s Chicago this past weekend. Additionally, as ABC notes by Monday morning the tally went up to 23 shootings and 3 more fatalities.
The youngest victim was a 15-year-old boy who was shot in the head and killed while riding his bike on Saturday. The oldest was a 62-year-old man who was shot twice in the chest while sitting on his porch on Sunday.
Did most Americans hear about any of this? Of course not. Instead, most heard about Lightfoot’s “Call to Arms,” as she again made it known once again that national abortion optics are more important and valuable than what’s really happening in the city she is supposed to be protecting.
This past weekend’s gun violence comes just days after Mayor Lori Lightfoot unveiled her new crime-fighting strategy, which includes adding more police officers to high-crime areas and increasing community engagement.
Up till now, Lightfoot has been widely criticized for her handling of the city’s gun violence problem, with some rightfully calling for her resignation.
As most know by now, gun violence has been out of control for years now in Democrat-run Chicago. Remember last year over the Fourth of July weekend when more than 100 people were shot in the city, with at least 17 of those dying from their injuries? It’s insane how no one on the left will talk about any of this.
And the worst part of it? Chicago has some of the strictest gun control legislation in the country.
No matter what, though, we can expect Democrats to continue to push for stricter gun control measures nationwide. But again, just look at Chicago.
It’s hard not to feel sympathetic towards the good people of Chicago who have been rendered defenseless by tyrannical politicians such as Lightfoot. Not to mention the over arching progressive argument that “fewer guns means less crime.” It makes absolutely no logical sense. Especially when this Chicago example is taken into consideration.
Since the beginning of 2022, 191 people were shot and killed in the now dubbed by some, “Chi-raq.”
But while hordes of criminals run the streets of the torn down ghettos of Chicago, those in power still tell us to rejoice because of “progress” and “inclusivity.” They do it with a straight face too.
Being Chicago’s first gay mayor is a title I don't take for granted.
My historic administration, as well as the crosswalks we’ve revealed today, are symbols reminding me to work harder to create pathways for people like me—like us—to get into leadership positions & thrive. pic.twitter.com/ltMPelhFsR

How do these progressives aim to tackle crime and poverty? By virtual signaling, of course.
These stats are alarming and utterly repulsive. So ask yourself: How are these numbers happening routinely in an American city? And better yet, why aren’t Democrat leaders being held accountable for any of their actions? Or better yet, their inactions.
