Out Of Touch? Rep. Eric Swalwell Ridiculed After Tweeting #GasPricesAreSoLow

Gas is affordable now, didn’t you hear!? Well, cheap at least according to Democrat Representative Eric Swalwell, who took to social media in order to celebrate the recent marginal drop in fuel prices.

Swalwell started a #GasPricesAreSoLow hashtag to gloat about gas prices falling a bit from their previous peak of $5-a-gallon nationally in June.

“Gas prices are so low Ted Cruz cancelled his flight and drove to Cancun. Post your best #GasPricesAreSoLow,” Swalwell posted online.

As Swalwell was likely intending to imply, gas prices have dropped in the United States since last month, now reported at an average of $4.33 a gallon on Tuesday. However, they are still far higher than before — Fox News reported that this new total marks a nearly two-dollar increase since Joe Biden took office in 2021.

The congressional representative’s home state of California has reported an average gas price of about $5.71 per gallon.

Numerous people mocked Swalwell for his suggestion that gas is no longer expensive.

First Amendment attorney Casey Mattox asked, “Wait. Are people actually trying to use the #GasPricesAreSoLow hashtag? Unironically?”

United States Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) also ridiculed Democrat celebration of the lower gas prices, writing, “In other words, Americans are paying over $100 more a month per “peson” to fill up their gas tanks than when Biden took office.”

“Gas prices are still over double what they should be… but nice try,” commented Washington Times columnist Tim Young.

“Imagine being a Democrat Congressman and you categorize gas prices over $4/gal as ‘so low.’ If this isn’t proof that Democrats are a cult, nothing is,” opined Washington Examiner commentator Christopher Tremoglie.

“In Mexico, #GasPricesAreSoLow in Mexico, that Americans are using gas to drive and buy American-imported gas there,” joked MarTech Zone founder Douglas Karr.

Morning Consult senior reporter Eli Yokley shared a graphic displaying the increase in gas prices over the past three years and asked, “Perhaps a lil early for a victory lap?”

Big League Politics has routinely covered the suffering condition of the American economy since the Joe Biden administration took office. A report earlier this week highlighted that some Americans are now driving across the southern border in a desperate attempt to find cheaper gasoline.
