Obama Embraces Socialism, Endorses Three Candidates Linked To DSA

In an unsurprising turn of events, former President Barack Obama has endorsed three candidates with deep ties to the Democratic Socialists of America. In his second round of endorsements, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Andrew Gillum have been added.

Ocasio-Cortez is running to replace Democrat Rep. Joe Crowley in New York’s 14th Congressional District, and Andrew Gillum is running against Rep. Ron DeSantis for Governor in Florida.

In his first round of endorsements, Obama also included Stacey Abrams, the Democrat nominee for Governor in Georgia.

Both Ocasio-Cortez have received support from the far-left Democratic Socialists of America, while Abrams keynoted a conference held by the socialist organization in 2011.

So after eight years of Democrats opining about how Obama isn’t a socialist, he is choosing to fully embrace candidates with strong ties to hard-core socialists. Ocasio-Cortez goes so far to describe herself a socialist.

While Ocasio-Cortez may be the only one embracing the label, there is little difference between the three on policy positions. Both Ocasio-Cortez and Gillum support abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), while Abrams refuses to answer definitively, despite spouting harsh anti-ICE talking points.

All three candidates also support socialist solutions when it comes to issues like healthcare, going further than Obama ever dreamed of doing in office.

The latest polling in Florida shows that Gillum is leading, while Abrams is neck and neck with her Republican opponent. Ocasio-Cortez is in a dark blue district where it will take a miracle for a Republican to beat her in a General Election.

But the polling both Florida and Georgia shouldn’t be taken as gospel. President Trump outperformed most polls in both states; and with his continued economic success those within his party will likely outperform.

President Donald Trump has made his support for Rep. Ron DeSantis well known, visiting the state at the end of July for one of his famous campaign rallies.

The DeSantis campaign decries Obama’s recent round of endorsement, attacking the underlying message. Florida State Rep. and Puerto Rican Outreach Chairman for the DeSantis campaign, Bob Cortes told Big League Politics:

“We continue to see the underlying message being portrayed by these recent endorsements. What they have in common is socialist policies that have failed in places like New York, Illinois and California. They all want Florida to be like Venezuela and push us into debt like Puerto Rico. We must continue to fight this as the future of Florida depends on it.”
